How Our Natural Handmade Soap Making Journey Began

How Our Natural Handmade Soap Making Journey Began

I'm writing this blog on behalf of my sister, to share the story of how her soap-making journey began-right from our small village, with a simple goal: to help her son.

A while ago, my nephew began struggling with severe pimples and dark spots on his face. My sister, who holds a degree in B. Pharm, decided to take matters into her own hands. Living close to a forest, we have access to a variety of natural herbs and ingredients. She gathered what she could find locally, dried and powdered the herbs, and applied the mixture to her son’s face regularly.

Within two weeks, the pimples and dark spots began to fade noticeably. Word quickly spread. Neighbors who saw the change started asking about her remedy. She shared her herbal mix with them, and they too experienced positive results. Encouraged by their feedback, they suggested she start making soaps using the same natural ingredients.

At first, she hesitated. Soap-making seemed complicated and intimidating. But with consistent encouragement from friends and family, she decided to give it a try. She enrolled in soap-making classes and faced many challenges along the way. Determined to keep her products 100% natural, she learned how to minimize waste, repurpose materials, and make everything by hand. She even reused old items like vanity drawers, garage boxes, Pringles cans, coffee tins, and more to mold and store her soaps.

I’ve been closely involved, helping brainstorm ideas for new soaps, choosing colors, scents, and packaging concepts. Although her husband was initially concerned about entering this line of business, the demand kept growing, and my sister became more confident.

Our first handmade soaps was Manjistha & Nalangu Maavu, made from a powerful blend of:

Manjistha - Manjistha, Haritaki, Nutmeg, Licorice, Mahilampoo, PoolankizhanguPure Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Castor Oil, Mustard Oil, Butter, Vitamin E Oil, Natural Fragrances and over 20 other herbal ingredients.

Nalangu Maavu - Haritaki, Nutmeg, Licorice, Poolan kizhangu, Paneer Rose, Vettiver, karboga arisi,Mahilampoo, Korai kizhangu, soap nut, Pure coconut oil, Olive oil, Butter, Castor oil, Mustard oil, +20 more herbals added.

We tested this soap with our friends and family. Their feedback was incredibly positive:
✔ Removed pimples
✔ Cleared acne and suntan
✔ Brightened skin tone
✔ Made skin soft and smooth
✔ Removed dead skin cells

This success inspired my sister to create more varieties. After some trial and error, she finalized seven unique soap types, which quickly became local favorites:

🌹 Paneer Rose Soap

“For the one who loves to glow naturally.”

It all started when my sister visited a nearby rose garden early one morning. She came home with a handful of fresh Paneer Roses and said, "This scent is too beautiful not to share." Inspired by the soft, romantic fragrance and the soothing effect rose has on the skin, she created this gentle yet luxurious soap. Blended with rich oils and natural butter, it leaves your skin feeling soft, glowing, and lightly perfumed with nature’s sweetness.

🥔 Potato & Rice Soap

“Inspired by grandmother’s kitchen secrets.”

When our grandmother used to see dark spots or sunburn on our skin, she would grind raw potatoes and mix them with rice water as a home remedy. My sister revived that age-old wisdom with a modern twist in this soap. The goodness of boiled rice water, tomato, and potato work together to lighten pigmentation, remove tan, and even out skin tone—wrapped in a nourishing base of oils and butter. It’s your daily dose of tradition, reimagined.

🌿 Kuppaimeni Soap

“The healing power of backyard greens.”

Kuppaimeni grows wild around our home, often ignored, yet packed with powerful anti-inflammatory properties. My sister combined it with Neem, Tulsi, Basil, and Aloe Vera—every herb hand-picked from our garden. This soap was originally made for those suffering from acne and itchy skin. Within days, users felt the difference. It's now our go-to herbal warrior for healthy, problem-free skin.

🥕 Beetroot & Carrot Soap

“From kitchen colors to skincare magic.”

One day, while juicing carrots and beets, my sister noticed the beautiful rich colors staining her hands—and the natural softness that followed. That moment sparked the idea for this brightening soap. Beetroot boosts skin elasticity, while carrot is rich in Vitamin A and antioxidants. This soap became a favorite among those wanting brighter, youthful-looking skin without chemical bleaching agents.

🍊 Papaya & Orange Soap

“Zest up your skin with fruity freshness.”

When the summer heat left everyone with dull, tired skin, my sister looked to fruit for a solution. She dried orange peels and mashed ripe papayas, combining them into a refreshing, tan-removing, glow-enhancing soap. The natural enzymes in papaya gently exfoliate, while citrus oils from orange peel cleanse and energize. Every wash feels like a burst of tropical freshness.

Why Our Soaps Are Worth Every Rupee

Some customers initially felt our soaps were a bit expensive. We completely understand that concern—and we always take the time to explain why.

Our soaps are made with 100% high-quality herbal ingredients. We never use chemicals, artificial colors, or cheap fillers. The oils and herbs we source are naturally effective but also more costly. That’s the price of purity - and we never compromise on quality.

Yes, some people noticed that our soaps dissolve a bit faster. On average, each bar lasts 15–20 days. We consulted experienced soap makers, and many advised us to add hardening agents or chemicals to make the soap last longer. But my sister is firmly committed to keeping her products completely natural and chemical-free, even if it means shorter shelf life. For us, safety and skin health come first.

Over time, more people began to appreciate this honesty and care. They started trusting our products and became regular customers. Their support and feedback encouraged me to take our brand online. I already had a website for my bag manufacturing business, so I added a section for her handmade soaps and oils as well.

Now, my sister has also begun making herbal hair oils and face massage oils. We recommend using any of our products consistently for at least a month to see real results-and most customers come back with glowing reviews.

We’re now ready to take bulk orders and even explore export opportunities. The only thing holding us back is understanding the export process and finding international buyers.

If you’re interested in learning more about our handmade, natural products - or would like to sell them in your area - we’d love to connect.
